Ja-Mar Donates New Roof to LBJ Wildflower Center

In a recent research effort, Ja-Mar donated new roofing to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Ja-Mar worked in conjunction with the Texas Water Development Board to research which roofing materials are best for rainwater harvesting. This research is important to help in efforts to conserve water in Texas and was especially helpful to the Wildflower Center. Thanks to Ja-Mar’s donation, the Wildflower Center can conserve more water while keeping the beautiful landscape green.

Ja-Mar Roofing helped in the transformation of a historic home in Old Enfield recently featured in the Austin Statesman. The house has been home to many famous Austinites, including most recently, former City Councilman Lowell Lebermann Jr. The Ja-Mar team worked under general contractor Bo Bezdek to rebuild the roof of the 1930’s home. David Phillips, president and CEO of Ja-Mar Roofing, and James McKinney, the founder and now senior consultant of the company, have a combined total of more than 60 years in the roofing business. They both learned the roofing trade from their fathers when they were young.

“I roofed with my brother in high school to make extra money during the summer,” Phillips said.

While Phillips admitted that the work was “too difficult” for him at the time, roofing was a “trade [he] learned early on and became really knowledgeable about.”
